Zen Bowing Practice: Journey to 1,000!

Join our lead instructor, Adam Holtey, for this special annual training to sincerely commune with your true self as you head into the New Year.

The training is held on 3 dates in December, on Saturday the 2nd and 16th, and Sunday the 31st. The first 2 sessions are from 7am to 9:15am, and the final session on New Year's Eve is from 6am to 9:45am. There are 2 introductory (and not mandatory) bowing sessions on November 4th and November 18th, both from 8am to 9:15am.

The Zen style bowing exercise is so simple to perform, allowing the mind and body to merge in a rejuvenating flow. It is certainly challenging the greater the number of bows you practice, but with this challenge comes the benefit of witnessing the profound healing that occurs when the mind is deeply unified with the body. The repetitive nature of the bows draws the mind continually back to the body, and to the breath, allowing energy to be absorbed deep into the bones to restore reserves of essential energy and vitality.

As you move deeper and deeper into the flow of the bowing exercise, your physical body is often forgotten, as you become immersed in your energetic and spiritual (mental) bodies. As your physical body tires, you begin to rely on your emotional/energetic and spiritual/mental stamina; and this becomes a way in which you grow your energetic and spiritual vitality, and increase your well-being at every level.

On December 2nd, we start with 300 bows; on the 16th we do 500; and on the 31st we'll do 1,000! The emphasis is not placed singularly on the number of bows, but rather on giving your sincere effort and continuing for the entire practice time on each day. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace if they are not comfortable following the pace of the lead instructor.

After the bowing portion of each session, we will practice a simple seated meditation, and then move into a flow of free form Qigong and energy practices.

This training is valuable for anyone involved in, or wishing to begin, a mind-body discipline, and provides a comprehensive routine for a home training program. All levels of experience are encouraged to join!

The first two sessions in November are offered on a donation basis, and the fee for the 3 sessions in December is $85, or $60 for SOU/RCC students and Qigong Instructors in training. You can click here to register, and we will contact you to give you all the details!
