What is Lomi Lomi Massage?
Lomi Lomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage modality used frequently in ancient Hawaii and still often today. The specific patterns that Lomi Lomi is known for can vary by family, island and region.
The Polynesian settlers originally brought this massage technique into Hawaii, and it evolved into something unique to the Hawaiian people. Lomi Lomi quickly became a deeply rooted part of the culture. In ancient times, the people that performed this massage were called ka poʻe Lomi Lomi (massage person), however this healing method was also practiced by almost everyone in the community, including young children and elders.
Elders who were adept in this style of massage held the belief that memories are stored in every cell of the body. In order to change body patterns, deep, flowing, strong strokes must be used. Lomi Lomi is meant to soothe and restore energy. The work goes deeply and smoothly into the muscles, convincing tension to fade away to the comfort of touch, love and healing. As the ocean moves water in endless rhythm, Lomi Lomi moves the water through the body.
Lomi Lomi is a truly amazing healing technique, using deep, nurturing touch to send tension out of the body. Along with tension, toxins are released and the digestive system is much more comfortable and balanced. This gentle method of healing and rejuvenation reaches deep to the level of the bones, where the mana (life force) originates.
Maureen Boksa, LMT

Maureen Boksa, LMT graduated from the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage in 2014 with advanced coursework in several different treatment modalities, including but not limited to, Lomi Lomi, Trager, Craniosacral, Aston, and Shiatsu.
Moe has a strong background in traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, a method of bodywork that has taken on many forms as it has descended through several lineages on the islands. Lomi Lomi is characterized by long flowing strokes of the forearms, bringing deep therapeutic work all the way to the level of the bones, the origin of the “mana” or life force in Hawaiian tradition.
The Trager Approach is another powerful method which Moe enjoys practicing. This is a very gentle, yet effective approach which is done over comfortable clothing, with no use of oil. It is characterized by a combination of passive and active movements which work the tissues from the areas of least to most resistance.
Moe believes very strongly in the body-mind connection and tailoring treatments to the needs of each client. Whether the time is right for deep overall relaxation, specific injury work, improved body alignment, or movement of energies or emotions, treatments may always be modified before or during a session. Moe believes in and promotes work deep into the tissues in a comfortable and productive way.
